Dairy Princess Seminar
One Hundred Eleven Dairy Promoters from three
states assembled at Lycoming College, Williamsport, PA for 4 days of
intensive training in the “how tos” of Dairy Promotion.
The participants included 27 county princesses, 13 county
alternates, 7 out-of-state princesses (Maryland and Virginia), 22
adults, 3 state royalty, 1 Helper, 8 PDPPS, 3 State Moms and 27 speakers from Pennsylvania.
While the girls went through the various sessions, their adult
supporters followed along to gather information for themselves.
Pennsylvania Dairy Princess, LeeAnn Kapanick, and her Alternates, Nicole
Wasson and Abby Trotter served as hostesses and helpers throughout the week.
This years seminar started mid afternoon on Tuesday, July 7th with an
Introduction session followed by a panel of Dairy Farmers and Dairy
Industry representatives. Rounding out the first afternoon of seminar was Ken Raney leading the
Cows – Facts and Figures workshop. Dinner was a pizza party followed with mixer games.
Former 2001-2002 PA Dairy Princess, Huntingdon County Dairy Princess and
Tina Shultz winner, Becky Mowrer Couch got the program off to an
inspirational start Wednesday morning with her Keynote Address “Follow
Your Heart, Wherever It Leads You.” Giving examples from her own life,
Becky shared how too often we make a plan for our lives and many times,
that plan changes as we live our lives. Becky was able to inspire the seminar attendees and encourage them
on their year of dairy promotion and beyond. It was a great kickoff with the main auditorium and lobby decorated
in a Disney Princess theme – complete with a castle and a carriage.
Throughout the Seminar, speakers and workshop leaders led the
participants through sessions on our industry, body language, nutrition,
public speaking, interviewing, working with the media, school
promotions, store promotions, scrapbooking, personal appearance, dress
and social know how. In addition, for the third year, the attendees were transported to the Schneider’s
Valley Milk Plant and were given a tour. All 47 participants presented and were critiqued on speeches
appropriate for adult audiences and skits for school children.
Pennsylvania Dairy Princess and Promotion Services, Inc. (PDPPS,
